RESEARCH CONTROL IS A STATE OF CHAOS

Things in disorder naturally move toward order. This implicit tendency unfolds on the most basic levels within our bodies and then extends outward into our behaviors and everyday interactions. United not by our cultural backgrounds or artistic histories, but through our shared feminine identities, we found a space for unfettered communication as a collective. As women, we experience a unique form of control and freedom shaped by the interplay between our personal narratives and societal expectations. Within this duality, we explore all facets of femininity and question whether gender still holds a place in the modern world.

Founded in 2018, Kollektiva. is a collective of international freelance dance and performance artists based in Hamburg. Entirely composed of women, the group draws on its members’ diverse artistic backgrounds within a heterarchical structure to discover new movement possibilities through research. Grounded in contemporary dance, with roots in classical ballet, urban and Afro dance influences, martial arts interests, and Feldenkrais expertise, the women of Kollektiva. connect through their shared feminine experiences. The variety of movement knowledge within the collective enriches their work, fostering an open exchange of ideas on stage, in the studio, and in collaboration with Hamburg’s free scene.
